ABode Manchester now open (with a Fabulous twist)
ABode Hotels officially launched ABode Manchester on May 1st, 2008. ABode Manchester is the fourth in a growing collection of lifestyle hotels, established in 2005 by hotelier Andrew Brownsword (owner of The Bath Priory, Gidleigh Park and Sydney House) and two-Michelin-starred chef, Michael Caines (Gidleigh Park and Michael Caines at ABode). ABode Manchester marks the launch of the ‘Fabulous’ brand with the entire fifth floor of ABode Manchester boasting five fabulous suites with bespoke benefits for guests.
The refurbishment of the stunning grade II-listed building has retained and enhanced many of the hotel’s original features. Designed by Charles Heathcote, the site is one of Manchester’s most powerful historical and architectural landmarks. The impressive entrance on the ground floor gives visitors a taste of the ABode experience, showing the MC Café Bar with DJ booth and views into the working kitchen. The lower ground floor area includes private rooms for both meetings and dining, finished and equipped to ABode’s usual high standard.
The 61 loft-style bedrooms have been completely redeveloped and showcase Italian designer furniture, contemporary design and trademark Vi-Spring hand-built beds. Some bedrooms quirky and individual artwork and many rooms boast funky light fittings. Bathrooms feature monsoon showers and all rooms are equipped with personal DVD players and state of the art LCD televisions.
Fabulous Michael Caines cuisine
Michael Caines is at the helm of all ABode food and drink. ABode Manchester has an exciting range of eating options. There is an MC Café Bar serving informal foods throughout the day and evening, and with an outdoor eating area. The adjoining BarMC is a late night lounge bar serving cutting edge cocktails and late snacks to chilled out tunes. In the lower level, you will find the atmospheric Champagne and Cocktail Bar fusing effortlessly in striking modern style with the adjoining Michael Caines Restaurant.
Executive Chef Ian Matfin worked alongside Michael for some years at Gidleigh Park and is perfectly placed to interpret and execute Michael’s celebrated and much acclaimed modern European cuisine. Diners have the opportunity to savour this both as the full experience from the à la carte menu in the Restaurant, as well as from a ‘grazing’ menu that offers the same dishes in lighter, smaller versions that can be enjoyed informally in either the Restaurant or the Champagne and Cocktail Bar. Signature dishes include ‘Boudin of chicken mousse - wild mushrooms, asparagus and white wine and morel sauce’ and ‘Best end of Herdwick Lamb – onion and thyme purée, fondant potato and tapenade jus’.
The MC Café Bar offers a selection of light bites, platters, salads, pastas, risottos and paninis all available throughout the day as well as full meals in the evenings.
In keeping with the individuality of each hotel, Michael works closely with local suppliers and employs local chefs and front of house staff, to ensure that each ABode has its own personality, in harmony with its location.
Photographer Brian Aris is currently showcasing a selection of his photography in the Michael Caines Restaurant and Champagne Bar. Brian is one of the world’s finest photographers with a portfolio covering pop stars, celebrity weddings, rock tours and concerts including The Princes Trust and Nelson Mandela. Brian’s work is currently exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
